Analog Hearts

 _MG_4188

The two things that I am most passionate about are “Style & Melody”.

There is another little lady here in Nashville that is cultivating a niche’ that reflects just that.

Christin Cook is an accomplished hair stylist and makeup artist.

Christin’s portfolio is bursting full of fashion editorial shots, music videos, and inspired avant-garde looks that scream no boundaries.

To add to to her stable of talents this dame is known to pick wail into a mic and strut her guitar wielding prowess on stage.

For more information on Christin Cook and her brands: www.christincook.com

How does she make the time to become a bracelet designer?

Who knows? Quite frankly, who cares?

I just know that I dig them and so do our customers!

We have been stocking up on her Analog Hearts bracelets for a few months now and love the simple yet forward messages.

We have sold out before and probably will again.

The “Beloved” and “XOXO” styles are both available now and would make the perfect gift…..for yourself maybe?

I am partial to the XOXO myself.

Just Joking.

No really. Now.

Green Glossary

Organic-Beauty-Products-Learn-the-Lingo_articleimageActress Sienna Miller

I have a tad problem with subscribing to magazines. On a monthly basis, I receive Vogue, Marie Claire, W, NYLON, Rolling Stone, Under The Radar, SOMA, Spin, Self, and more.

I was snuggled up with the Chico man the other day, and came across an article that was in Elle Magazine from a couple of months back that I thought was pretty rad.

We love to promote making a healthier and vibrant planet by selling and trading recycled, vintage, and new Eco-Conscious brands that have the same goal. Some of our current favorite lines that boast all kinds of GREEN goodness are:

PLAYBACK Clothing, Threads For Thought, SUGAR, Tennessee Soy Candle & Bath Company, and Boy Meets Girl. We have more on the way for Fall & Spring shipments!

With that being said, it does get rather confusing at times with all of the information that is floating around out there. Here is a cheat sheet to get you all set up with why you must jump on board to a GREENER lifestyle. Now go do your homework!

Organic Beauty Products: Learn the Lingo

Going green is easy with ELLE’s eco-friendly guide to terminology, labels, and more

By Maura Lynch | April 20, 2009 3:00 p.m.

As the $7.8 billion natural and organic beauty industry continues to expand, so does the complexity of its labeling. Here, ELLE decodes the lingo to make it easy being green.

NATURAL VS. ORGANIC: Any plant, mineral, or animal by-product is considered “natural.” “Organic” refers to how an ingredient was cultivated: without pesticides, chemical fertilizers, growth hormones, or antibiotics. Check labels for the real dirt. “There’s no regulation of the word natural. A completely synthetic product can claim it on the label,” says Mike Indursky, CMO of Burt’s Bees and chairman of the personal care committee for the Natural Products Association.

SUSTAINABILITY: Using natural ingredients is not always good news for the earth. The demand for palm oil, found in everything from cosmetics to biofuel, led to the destruction of rain forests in Southeast Asia. Subsequently, companies such as Unilever and the Body Shop joined forces to purchase only palm oil sustainably, i.e., without depleting natural resources, polluting the air, or disrupting local ecosystems.

CRUELTY-FREE AND VEGAN: “Cruelty-free” products have not been tested on animals; “vegan” items are also free of animal by-products such as beeswax. Even if a product says it wasn’t animal tested, most ingredients, at some point in their history, have been tested on animals, says Jane Houlihan, vice president for research at the Environmental Working Group. Log on to the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics website (Leapingbunny.org) to find products approved by the nonprofit.

Organic beauty product seals

CERTIFICATION: No single system monitors all products; companies choose which seals to apply for (see selection at right). Although most certifications address a product’s ingredients, some rate its environmental impact as well. Cradle to Cradle, for example, assesses products based on their recyclable or biodegradable design, use of renewable energy,
social responsibility, and overall safety.

PRESERVATIVES: The common preservatives known as parabens have been shown to mimic estrogen in the body; one study found them in breast tumors. Both the FDA and National Cancer Institute maintain that parabens are safe, but some companies rely on alternatives. Burt’s Bees, for example, prevents microbial growth in products by using milk and sugar enzymes; other brands reduce the need for preservatives by cutting water content.

ADVANCED CHEMISTRY: Even non-eco brands are giving the boot to popular sudsers sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES). Studies have found potentially harmful contaminants in SLES, and SLS is known for causing inflammation and eventually contact dermatitis. For a gentler alternative, look for formulas with natural coconut oil (lauryl glucoside and decyl glucoside). Check out the Environmental Working Group’s Cosmetic Safety Database (cosmeticsdatabase.com) for more information on chemicals of concern.

Meet The Teacher’s Pet

He only received Clothing Xchange Employee Of The Month for two months in a row. Jeez.

May we present to you the lad we know simply know as:  EVAN MAGNESS

Here’s our EXCLUSIVE interview with the man, the legend.

9925_1199046025349_1504470083_30534006_4337506_n

CX: Evan, we had a difficult time choosing a photograph of you that would truly depict you in your true state. There is pressure amongst the staff to be on their top game with having a “LEGEND” like you around. What is your advice to your fellow staffers and other that may want to one day reach “LEGEND” like status?

Evan:There’s no possible way answer to that. You’re just born with it. Don’t even try! Give up!

CX: Switching gears, which do you prefer….doughnuts OR doughnut holes?

Evan: Please don’t make me choose! That’s like telling me I can only save only one of my children from the Holocaust. That is some very cruel Sophie’s Choice nonsense.

CX: Name your the first 3 words that come to mind when I mention the letter  “C”.  Hurry up! You only have 18 seconds!

Evan: Chicken. Curry….and Crack?

CX: You and I have some very similar music tastes. Although you and your delightful girlfriend are both selfish traitors and attended Lollapalooza this year without the rest of the adoring staffers….AND you still flaunt the damn wristband around bragging that you got to attend….what are some of your favorite tunes right now?

Evan: Lately, I’ve been listening to an album of B side songs by Karen O, along with some Kevin Drew and Dr. Dog.

CX: Explain to us what you see in this picture.

Ink Blot

Evan: Your anger and jealousy towards me for going to Lollapalooza.

CX: What item(s) are you going to splurge on with your Employee Of The Month Gift Certificate?

Evan: I am going to buy a baby!

I may also save up for that incoming black jacket coming in from our new line Cash Crop Clothing….but only if  I don’t buy the baby.

3-300x208

We are only getting in 3 of these jackets in November…so you better beat Evan to the punch!

CX: Lastly, Where is Waldo?

wheres-waldo-wally1

Evan:  I don’t know but we crashed at his pad in Chicago for Lollapalooza.

CX: Of course you did.

All Star Team

It crossed my mind the other day that most of our staff consists of musicians.

I am not talking about people who think that they have a band now because they happen to have a killer rendition of Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar On Me” while playing Guitar Hero with your cousin Eddie on guitar and a 3rd grader on drums.

guitar-hero

He does NOT work here. If you happen to know this guy, punch him in the face on my behalf. Please and thank you.

Now back to the REAL musicians….

Check out and support our peeps!
